Miller_CD Case_bd_final

Sample tracks from our upcoming release The Falling of the Pine:

The Jolly Raftsman
Jails of Buffalo
Leizime Brusoe’s / Morton’s
Heights of Alma

We are happy to announce that this CD will be available for purchase (both digitally and physically) by the end of July. Randy and I went in to the Hideaway Studio in Minneapolis in January with a mix of our favorite material we’ve been working on for the past two years.  Building on the theme and sound of “Minnesota Lumberjack Songs,” “The Falling of the Pine” includes songs and dance tunes from North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ontario. We play guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, mandola, tenor banjo and harmonium on the recording.

This CD was made possible, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Thank You!

Pine City Concert (Pine Center for the Arts concert at Northwest Company Fur Post, Pine City, MN)

We want to extend a huge thank you to the Minnesota Historical Society and the following organizations for partnering to present our music and stories in 12 different towns around the state  of Minnesota over the past 7 months: Graceville Public Library, Appleton Library, Milaca Public Library, Jackson Public Library, Mille Lacs Library, Cambridge Public Library, Plymouth Public Library, Brooklyn Park Public Library, Moorhead Library, Crookston Library, Pine Center for the Arts and the Aitken Public Library. Thank you to all the hardworking organizers and to everyone that came out to hear and see the show!

We had such wonderful audiences everywhere we went and we especially enjoyed hearing so many stories from audience members about how this music and history reminded them of their own family stories and special places around the state. We are commited to continuing to bring traditional music collected in the Upper Midwest back to the communities it came from!

Randy and I just finished up two weeks in the wonderful Hideaway Studio in Northeast Minneapolis working on our upcoming duo album. We’re very excited about the music and hoping to have the CD out by May or June. Tomorrow we’re off to Chicago to perform at the University of Chicago Folk Festival. Looking forward to bringing our northwoods music to the big city. In addition to performances on Friday and Saturday nights, we’ll also give a talk on Minnesota singer Mike Dean (Saturday afternoon) and workshops on our approach to song arrangement.
